Same People, Different First Impressions

23 06 2009

So I was out with some friends tonight, kickin it back and all, and something really interesting came to my mind. I met someone for the first time tonight and I imagined what it would be like if I was actually meeting one of my good friends now, for the first time. You know, like if the circumstances were different and you met a previous girlfriend/friend under different circumstances. Would things be different? Would you still hit that same spark you hit before with your previous girlfriend? Or would you just meet them once, and say goodbye forever.

It’s really a strange thing to think about.  You know, if their parents decided to move to a different part of town and you met them while meeting a friend at a bonfire or something randomly.  I want to experience this…

Scenarios

19 05 2009

I’ve never got into comic books, but for some reason that’s how my imagination works.  I don’t know if everybody is like this or if I just got lucky.  In the busy and chaotic downtown that I frequent, I take mental snapshots constantly.  This happens especially when my imagination kicks in with some scary and nearly impossible scenarious.

If I’m walking down a sidewalk that is empty, except for a single person walking in my direction, I go to work, unintentionally.  Quick, extremely quick flashes of that person walking closer and closer to me pop in my mind.  Then just as he passes, he throws me against the side of a building and chokes me.  I can’t explain it in words.  I go back to reality and cringe.  I check my pockets and hope what I just imagined doesn’t become a reality.  Sometimes I wish it did though..just to see how accurately I could envision what I think to be implausible situations.

I can see it all.  Anything.  And I think anyone can if they just focus and try.  I see cars and semi’s on the highway cause huge pile-ups, buildings collapsing and this tree in front of me catching on fire.  Hell, I can see this whole city on fire with me standing before it.  A common one is a large, sudden panic in crowds of people.  As I walked through the viewers of the “Bean”, I saw what would happen if a gunshot went off.  People running franticly, screaming past me as I walk calmly and smile.  I can’t imagine being without it.

Your Dying Day

We’ll it’s been a long time since I wrote here and I thought it deserved a very necessary update.  A little update on some personals: I just finished my Fall semester of my Sophmore year at Columbia College.  I’m there for film/video with a concentration in Editing.   Also, the band has been starting to get progressively more and more busy.  We just released our EP entitled ‘Your Dying Day’.  If you’d like a copy feel free to email wavrock@gmail.com  They’re only $5 and come with a free Poster and sticker!  Check out some songs before you buy the CD at our myspace HERE.  Also, I have a girlfriend.  Her name is Elif and she is simply amazing.  It’s been a little over four months and I’m happier than ever :)   Love you.  Well the combination of these three FORCES OF NATURE have really taken up all of my time.  But now that I’m on a FIVE WEEK WINTER BREAK from school, I can focus on the other two.

I’ve been making it a habit of watching at least one movie a day since I have an overwhelming collection of movies I have yet to see.  I wasn’t able to watch anything during the semester and now I’m doubling up!  Sometimes it’s two movies a day…oh well, it’s hard to beat just laying back and enjoying a good movie.

Speaking of movies, I just saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in theaters last night.  It was simply incredible.  It was an epic 3 hour movie that didn’t feel it’s length.  Time went by fast, a whole mans life, from start to finish is perfectly told.  Small details engross the film and all come together neatly at the end.  Brad Pitt is honestly flawless in his performance of a man who ages backwards.  You’ll laugh, you’ll be sad, you’ll be energetic, and you’ll be sad again.  Go see it.

Also see : Pi, Jacob’s Ladder

Unlock your Mind

29 08 2008

Some people that have read my writings say “Wow you’re so good! I could never do anything near like that” and I get sort of discouraged.  I feel sorry for some people that admit things like this.  You have to realize that everybody has this inside of them.  It’s just you:  the random thoughts that enter your head, the possible answers to questions that could never be answered.  I’m not sure if you just deny these random thoughts, or if you never question your position in this world, or if you simply don’t think like me.

If you honestly can’t look at the stars and wonder for hours about what else is out there, and really how tiny and unimportant we really are in the spectrum of life, then you need to unlock your mind.

If you honestly can’t just sit in a chair, in a quiet room, and admire all of the small imperfections that are around you, then you need to unlock your mind.

This world/universe/life is too large to be looking at it through a peephole.  Unlock your mind and open yourself up.

History of the Universe – Made Easy

Pale Blue Dot

19 08 2008

Pale Blue Dot (CLICK TO PLAY)

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena.
On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of,
every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.
Thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines,
every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every hero and coward,
every creator and destroyer of civilization,
every saint and sinner in the history of our species,
think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that,
in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance,
the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe,
are challenged by this point of pale light,
and underscores our responsibility and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot.

Are we Doomed?

18 08 2008

Are we doomed?  I’d like to think not, but in the fucked up world of the 21st century, anything is possible and it scares the hell out of me.  Lets take out the measuring cup.  One conflict between Georgia and Russia.  5 years of being in a still standing “War on Terrorism” in Iraq.  Four cups of December 12th, 2012-the Mayan Calendar ends (oh no!), and a teaspoon of a big fucking asteroid eating the earth.  Put this all together and you just might have to rethink the possibility of the world that we live in, ending.

I was at a bonfire the other night and I met some interesting people and while we were talking about the beginning of the world someone brought up how we thought the world was going to end.  Possiblities run through my mind.

December 12th, 2012- The Mayan Calendar suddenly ends!?? O-M-G nope. Dumb.

A giant asteroid hitting the earth and causing a “Day after Tomorrow” sort of scenario.  Now this one actually makes sense to me.  Of all the shit in space that is going around and what not, there had to be a giant asteroid SOMEWHERE that might hit us, and guess what they found it.  I, however, don’t think this will be the cause of the earth’s demise.  With technology nowadays, I have even heard talks about the scientists being prepared for a possible asteroid hitting the earth.  They can use a laser to try and throw the huge rock off its course.  Or you never know, they might pull together the cast of Armageddon and just plain and simple, blow that shit up.

Georgia + Russia conflict.  Georgia needs to stop being crybabies and needs to stop bombing a section of its OWN COUNTRY just because it wants to break off and be a part of Russia.  Cry about it all you want, but Russia is actually the protagonist in this real life story.  They were helping the citizens of South Ossetia that were hurt by the bombs.  And since they helped out citizens in Ossetia they were “Invading Geogia”  I’m sure you heard the opposite on the news but this is the truth.  For some reason Bush wants the people to believe that the Russians are bad people.  But if you aren’t following up on this conflict, Russia has recently agreed to remove forces from Georgia.  So, making this conflict a Negative, on destroying the world.

Our war in Iraq and the whole Middle East for that matter has been painful to watch or even hear about anymore.  More people dying.  More people dying for nothing.  While these terrorists cause a lot of destruction.  They don’t have the willpower or even financial support to acquire the arsenal of bombs that is required to end the world.  They will still do severe damage, but never end the world.

Global Warming, nuke war, or maybe the end of the world would be a (somewhat)natural occurance.  Global warming, if it is true, it will only catalyze the world’s demise.  The steps most countries are taking, will hopefully slow this process down.

Nuke War?  Whoever drops the first nuke should be blamed for the end of the world.  Drop one, and they will keep on happening.

Natural ending? Far into the future, humans have surprisingly not killed themselves, but everything feels a little different.  Some say the Earth’s rotation will be drastically slower far into the future, meaning that the length of 50 days will be the equivalent of one in the future.

The Cloverfield Monster?  Seriously.  Did he destroy the world or will there be a sequel to tell us what the hell is happening!?

Basically what I’m trying to get at is, the world is a fucked up place.  There are loads of crazy people, superstituous people, religious people, and all the others that make up the population.  These can be taken anytime by the push of a button.  A simple asteroid, a simple bomb, a simple last day of a calendar, etc.

Live your life to the fullest, don’t wait till there is a countdown till your demise.  It will be too late then.

Things NOT to do before Sleeping

11 06 2008

After being a sleeper for 18 years I have realized the “don’ts” more than the “do’s” to sleeping. I have found out what the most important things NOT to do right before you attempt to fall asleep….if you are planning to sleep for more than 3 hours.

So, right before trying to sleep DON’T:

  • Take a shower
  • Think about the transition of being awake to being asleep.
  • Try to remember that teacher that subbed for your 3rd grade teacher for half a year.
  • Drink a caffeinated beverage of any sort.
  • Try to make patterns out of the noises outside.
  • Think about what the inside of your neighbor’s house looks like
  • Watch a deep and thought provoking movie.
  • Eat Taco bell or TBK
  • Think if there is life out somewhere in Space.
  • Think about how big the universe is, and if it ever ends.
  • Try to count all people you’ve dated.
  • Try to think why the girl you asked out Freshman year said No to you but yes to a douche.
  • Try to picture what the area where you are sleeping looked 2,000 years ago.
  • Put together your last name on all of the girls you dated and try to find out which one sounds the best.
  • Look through your iPod/phone for any reason.
  • Try to put together a top 10 list for anything.
  • Try to think of what that kid looks like today that left your elementary school in 5th grade.
  • Think of your first blowjob.

“NERD!”

29 05 2008

So this past Memorial Day weekend I did something most people probably didn’t. I spent it in a different state (Kentucky) with all people I have never met in person. Hmm, sounds a little weird? Well it may just get even more weird: I went to Kentucky to play a video game with about 70 other people. It’s called a LAN for a particular game and you compete against other teams. You may be like “What the fuck, are you serious?” but you have to keep in mind, for the last 6 years I have been playing this game and talking to each of these people.

Meeting these guys was extremely weird at first since all I had to paint a picture of what they looked like was their voice. So putting the two together was weird at first. Tony, one of my better known friends “over the nets” stayed at my house and proved to be quite normal (besides his nightly sleep talking session: “CAP THE FIRST!” “Lated”) Me and my friends showed him downtown Chicago for the first time and we had a hilarious bum experience. Pretty sure this bum knew more celebrities than Ryan Seacrest. He also sang to us and told jokes. Wonder what he’s doing right now.

The afternoon of our departure I woke up with a blaring headache (I wonder why). Had breakfast, then got all ready. I looked out the window and the guy driving us to Kentucky arrived. I knew this kid was a dork, and he is one of the most picked on people ONLINE so meeting this guy in person was hit or miss. Needless to say: he missed. He got out of the car and introduced himself and shook my hand. I shook and smiled but then i looked at what he was wearing: A full-color-coordinated matching windbreaker suit. I thought this was just a joke the first day, but then I saw him the second day of the LAN wearing a different colored track suit.

Well there were many surprises during the weekend: the asshats that talk the most shit online were probably some of the coolest people there. The team I was on didn’t do well but I didn’t expect it to. I just went to have a good time, meet people I’ve talked to for many years and I did just that. It was all worth it and I’m already planning on going to the next one which is supposed to be in Socal this winter.
